In one of the most positive developments for franchising since 2015, the National Labor Relations Board declared that McDonald's was not a joint employer of its franchisee's employees in December 2019. This decision was years in the making and has huge benefits for franchises of all sizes, who now have more clarity on how they can structure and grow.
9. Introduction of the Trademark Licensing Protection Act
The Trademark Licensing Protection Act (TLPA) was introduced in the House and Senate with bipartisan support. The bill would clear up joint employer confusion and be a major step forward for franchise businesses.

From Iowa to Alabama to New York City, IFA’s government affairs and advocacy team was on the ground making sure your business has the climate it needs to succeed. Across the country this year, IFA moved legislation and made laws that are designed to help franchising thrive.
