Revolutionary STEM Makerspace Unveils New Location in Washington

October 19, 2022

REDMOND, WA- Steamoji – a STEM maker academy designed to enrich student’s typical studies, is gearing up to open their new corporate location in Redmond, WA on October 22nd. Located at 16630 Redmond Way, Redmond, Washington, the innovative brand focuses on introducing their students, referred to as apprentices, to new technologies in fabrication, physical computing, engineering, digital arts, coding, and applied design.

The story of how Steamoji began is simple. After the brand’s founder, Hank Horkoff, noticed the sheer lack of quality, long term STEM outlets for his school-aged children, he knew that he needed to make a change. Hank had spent most of his career working within the tech sphere and understood just how important having STEM-related skills was in the industry. He brought this concern to other parents in his community and together they raised enough funding to get the ball rolling on a STEM education company. After recruiting a handful of experts in the field, and building out a talented team, Steamoji came to fruition in September of 2019.

“After countless ‘See you next year!’ responses from the STEM camps I’d send my kids to, I realized I needed to make a change,” said Horkoff. “Being able to offer the critical STEM and life skills on a continuing basis is huge for us. We want our apprentices to use what they learn at Steamoji for the rest of their lives, regardless of the field they end up in.”

It is no secret that the state of Washington is commonly hailed as one of the top places in the country for tech. The state ranks #1 in the country for the highest concentration of tech workers, and in the top five states for STEM job growth. These facts alone make it the perfect spot for Steamoji to open their doors and pass STEM skills on to the next generation. To introduce the community to the brand and celebrate their newest location, Steamoji will host a grand opening event at the Redmond location on Saturday, October 22nd from 10am-5pm. Bring your family and friends for a fun day of activities in robotics, coding and 3D printing!

“We are so excited to be growing the Steamoji family here in Redmond,” said Horkoff. “The region has such a great excitement about STEM already, and we cannot wait to begin making an impact on the future generation of tech. We really could not think of a more perfect place for us to call home.”

Steamoji currently has 2 corporate locations open with Redmond opening as the third, 1 franchise location open, and another 7 in development across the United States and Canada. The total investment to open a Steamoji franchise ranges from $210,500 to $488,000, with a $40,000 franchise fee included.
