Pancheros Mexican Grill Rolls Home Victory with New Ranking on Franchise Times Top 400 List
CORALVILLE, Iowa – Pancheros Mexican Grill announced today that it has been named #317 in the 2021 Franchise Times’ Top 400 list. The brand was also #1 on the “Top 3 Fastest Growers by Sales Percentage” identified as a top performer in the “Mexican Restaurants” category.
The brand jumped an impressive 42 spots since last year’s ranking.
“We’re honored to have jumped up in the ranking of franchise brands and to be amongst the top three in sales performance this year. This recognition showcases our brand’s strength, despite all of the challenges of the past 18 months,” said Rodney Anderson, founder and CEO of Pancheros. “Pancheros is proud of our 42-spot jump, and we look forward to what the future may hold.”
Previously the Top 200+, Franchise Times renamed its annual ranking of the 400 largest U.S.- based franchise systems by global systemwide sales to better encompass the biggest brands in franchising, along with promising young concepts in growth mode. The rigorous approach to research remains the same, said Franchise Times Editor in Chief Laura Michaels. The project is the result of a five-month research and reporting effort that leads to the most credible and objective franchise ranking available.
Based in Coralville, Iowa, Pancheros has grown from its Midwest roots into 12 states across the country, with each restaurant earning adoration and a loyal fan following in their communities for their commitment to building better burritos, as well as quesadillas, tacos, burrito bowls and salads.
There are approximately 70 Pancheros restaurants across the United States with an additional four in development.

About Pancheros
The beginning of Pancheros dates back to 1992 when Rodney Anderson opened the brand’s first restaurant in Iowa City, Iowa. Originally modeled after the Chicago taquerias that Anderson had visited often with his friends during his teenage years, the brand’s pursuit of constructing a better built burrito launched Pancheros into a concept based on simplicity and fresh-pressed tortillas.
Since it’s humble beginnings, Pancheros has earned a loyal following by redefining the standards of modern burritos offering fresh-pressed tortillas and perfectly-mixed ingredients with the help of BOB the Tool, a unique plastic spatula used to carefully mix ingredients together to create the perfect taste in every bite.
Amid its popularity, the brand has successfully grown from its roots and today a robust franchising program has led to approximately 69 locations across 12 states.
