IFA Commends Department of Labor on Apprenticeship Expansion
WASHINGTON, June 24—The International Franchise Association, the world’s oldest and largest organization representing franchising worldwide, praised the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Administration for its ongoing efforts to demonstrate the importance of apprenticeship programs for the American workforce.
The DOL announced a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would establish a process for the department to advance the development of high-quality, industry-recognized apprenticeship programs.
“America’s 733,000 franchise businesses build skills and develop careers across our country. IFA welcomes the Administration’s actions to promote apprenticeships and looks forward to working together to help train American workers across industries for the jobs of today and tomorrow,” said IFA’s SVP of Government Relations & Public Policy Matt Haller.
The Department further announced awards totaling $183.8 million to support the development and expansion of apprenticeships for educational institutions partnering with companies that provide a funding match component. The Department will also make available an additional $100 million for efforts to expand apprenticeships and close the skills gap.
IFA looks forward to working with DOL and the Administration to address a shortage of skilled workers and allow franchise businesses to realize the full benefits of these necessary programs.
