Germany Country Commercial Guide
Hungary is projected to continue its growth trends and record its strongest economic expansion in more than six years. The country’s 10 million people are increasingly interested in franchise concepts driving further growth for the sector. Hungary’s franchise economy consists of approximately 350 brands with nearly 20,000 franchisees employing 100,000 people. The country’s favored location in the heart of Europe, its affordable workforce and the demand for quality products and services is attractive for American brands. Companies have achieved great success with Hungarian partners when they localize, provide financing, set appropriate franchise fees, and/or use foreign master franchisees.

After member feedback, IFA and the US Commercial Service are now offering mission participants exclusivity within their sub-sector. The first company within a given industry and sub-sector (e.g. automotive industry, windshield repair sub-sector) to submit an application, complete the security deposit, and be approved for participation by the US Commercial Service will be guaranteed exclusivity; no other windshield repair franchise would be invited to join the mission. This structure allows companies to avoid direct competitors on the trade mission.
In order to avoid the issue of a company applying for a mission, blocking competitors from participating and then electing not to participate, security deposits are now taken. Companies interested in participating on the trade mission pay a security deposit of $1,000. The deposit is applied towards the total trade mission fees if the company participates, or it will be forfeited if the company pulls out of the trip. If the Commercial Service feels that they cannot provide appropriate support, the $1,000 will not be charged.
