Glossary of Franchising Terms
Entering any new industry can be difficult. Opening a business requires a large support structure and background knowledge. Here, at the International Franchise Associate, we are aware that we are a primary resource for not only franchisors, but also current and prospective franchisees. As an industry evolves so does its vocabulary, overtime the terms used in franchising have accumulated into a substantial list. With this in mind, the International Franchise Association has put together a Glossary of Franchising Terms: http://www.franchise.org//uploadedFiles/Glossary%20DL%20-%20IFA.pdf
The following glossary of franchise terms has been meticulously constructed to be as accurate as possible. While some terms are based on generally accepted definitions, other terms may be subject to differing interpretations and uses. Franchising is an evolving and changing business format and, as such, the terminology used by its practitioners is similarly fluid. The intent of this glossary is to give the reader an introduction to some of the language used in franchising. It is not intended to be all inclusive but merely one tool to understanding this unique business format.
We hope you find it useful.
