This year’s FAN was one for the books. Each day we had members sharing their stories, the power behind their brands and the reasons why franchising is so much more than just the product.
Day One
The Annual Franchising Gives Back Awards Dinner gave members time to talk with one another about what they do for their local communities and what it means to them. Look at the list of our award winners here. Right before the dinner, we had our first ever IFA Pride Council reception, where members could meet and discuss the LGBTQ+ presence in the franchising community, along with the key role they play in strengthening franchising. Representative Chris Pappas attended the reception, giving a short speech and making great conversation regarding the community in the business world.
Day Two
Bobby Wray, Director of Channel Sales for Paychex, Inc., shared successful ways to position your franchise as an employer of choice with both current and potential employees. Then came our keynote speaker, NFL Saints player Marques Colston, who talked about his journey into franchising and the how former pro-athletes make a perfect fit for franchising. Later on in the day, everyone was able to socialize and at the Leadership Reception, with great food and conversation flowing. The Leadership & Franchisee of the Year Awards Dinner highlighted franchisees who have made an outstanding impact within their business and local community. We were honored to showcase some of the best leaders from this past year, and are grateful for their contribution to the franchise community.
Day Three
We heard an outstanding speech given by William McNulty, Founder & CEO of Team Rubicon Global, and Co-Founder of Team Rubicon USA. William reminded us about how businesses have bigger missions than we normally think of, and how imperative it is to keep a good thing going when it not only helps change the world, but also your employees and teammates.
After that speech, our members went to Capitol Hill dedicated and ready to discuss their franchise brand, the importance of opposing the PRO-Act, and why Members of Congress should support the Trademark Licensing Bill. Members got to meet with representatives from their respective states and districts, putting their faces and stories behind the importance of franchising and how certain legislation would jeopardize so many livelihoods.
The day was closed out with the Taste of Franchising Reception, which featured food from Capriotti’s, McDonald’s and more. Everyone was able to congregate to discuss their days on the Hill and finish the conference out by discussing why their brand needed to be heard, and if they felt that it had or not. Regardless, these conversations with representatives will be an ongoing dialogue for you and your business.
When you attend FAN, you become the face of your brand’s name to the people who have the power to protect it. We thank everyone who came to Washington, D.C. as part of the Franchise Action Network Annual Meeting. Franchising needs your help and every single voice matters. See you next year!
