Says Trump’s nominee has shown her support for franchising; IFA pledges to work alongside Chavez-DeRemer to enact a pro-worker and small business growth agenda driven by commonsense regulations and tax relief that empowers America’s 830,000 franchise small businesses

WASHINGTON – Today, the International Franchise Association (IFA) issued the following statement urging the U.S. Senate to confirm former U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR) as U.S. Secretary of Labor:

“IFA is pleased to endorse Lori Chavez-DeRemer for Secretary of Labor,” said Matt Haller, IFA President and CEO. “President-elect Trump’s first term supported the franchise business model in many ways, from clarity on the joint employer standard and deregulation to tax relief for small business owners and workers. When the future of Main Street franchises was on the line, Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer stood up in support of America’s 830,000 franchised small businesses and their nine million employees. Chavez-DeRemer is the right person to lead the Labor Department to enable the franchise business model to grow and thrive in the coming years. We encourage all senators to support Lori Chavez-DeRemer for Labor Secretary.”

On Tuesday, IFA members met with Rep. Chavez-DeRemer in Washington, D.C., to discuss the priorities and goals of franchisors and franchisees in the year ahead, including certainty surrounding the joint employer standard, preventing the spread of misguided policies at the state level, and a change of course from overly burdensome regulations.

IFA has a significant history of interest in Department of Labor nominees. In recent years, IFA advocacy helped block the nominations of Julie Su to serve as U.S. Secretary of Labor and David Weil to serve as Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division, the latter of which failed on the Senate floor in March 2022.

Earlier this year, IFA released its “2025 Roadmap for Policy Growth” outlining the top five federal policy areas the Administration and Congress can advance to support franchised small businesses. Haller further detailed the ways franchising is essential to achieve the Administration’s economic goals in a recent Fox News op-ed here
