IFA Law Center

Founded in 2023, the IFA Law Center protects the franchise model in federal and state courts on issues threatening the future of franchising, including joint employer liability, misclassification, wage and hour laws, vicarious liability, antitrust, and administrative law matters involving the federal agencies. Regulatory litigation are cases in which the IFA Law Center participates as party—a plaintiff, petitioner or intervenor. The IFA Law Center also engages in litigation as an amicus curiae, or “friend of the court,” by filing amicus briefs to educate courts about the franchise model, nature of the franchise relationship and the practical implications of legal decisions to ensure preservation of the model.

The IFA Law Center is led by Executive Director Sarah Davies, IFA President and CEO Matthew Haller and IFA Chief Advocacy Officer Michael Layman. The IFA Law Center receives strategic guidance from its Advisory Board comprised of member brands representing a cross-section of industries, including restaurant, retail, hotel & lodging, health and fitness, and business and consumer services.
