The Power of Community & Representation

In the franchising world — where entrepreneurial dreams take shape — a powerful network of women is driving change, fostering leadership, and creating opportunities.

The Women’s Franchise Committee (WFC) is a dynamic force within the International Franchise Association (IFA), dedicated to advancing women in business through mentorship, advocacy, and leadership development. Since its inception, the WFC has broken barriers and has provided women in franchising with the resources, support, and community needed to thrive.

Annual Leadership Conference (ALC): The Power of Five

One of WFC’s most significant contributions to the IFA is the Annual Leadership Conference (ALC) — a must-attend event for franchise leaders. Held on Day 1 of the IFA Convention, ALC provides actionable insights, inspiring speakers, and networking opportunities.

This year, ALC embraced “The Power of Five,” focusing on five pillars driving franchising success: Operations, Marketing, Franchise Development, Technology, and Executive Leadership. Over 350 attendees gathered in Las Vegas for impactful discussions.

Honoring Excellence: The 25th Anniversary of the Crystal Compass Award

A highlight of ALC is the Crystal Compass Award, recognizing individuals who significantly contribute to mentorship, leadership, and industry advancement. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the award.

Robin Gagnon, CFE, co-founder & CEO of We Sell Restaurants, was honored as the 25th recipient. During her acceptance speech, she shared how belief from others can change one’s career trajectory. She reflected on her journey from franchisee to franchise executive and the WFC’s role in supporting women like her.

“That belief — the faith others place in you — is foundational to franchising.” Robin Gagnon, CFE [Catherine, can you make this a call out box?]

Robin’s story exemplifies the power of mentorship, advocacy, and community — all core to WFC’s mission. This milestone anniversary of the Crystal Compass Award highlights WFC’s lasting impact and the leaders who pave the way for future generations.

Beyond the ALC: The WFC’s Year-Round Impact

While ALC is a flagship event, WFC’s influence extends beyond the conference. The committee’s three pillars empower, educate, and elevate women in franchising:

  • Her Success Podcast – Featuring 50+ episodes that amplify female leadership stories.
  • Women’s Franchise Network (WFN) – Connecting women through 18 active chapters, eight in development, and free virtual webinars.
  • Annual Leadership Conference (ALC) – Bringing industry leaders together for education and networking.

Looking Ahead: The Future of the Women’s Franchise Committee

For nearly three decades, WFC has been a driving force in creating a more inclusive and dynamic franchise industry. Through mentorship, storytelling, networking, and leadership development, the committee remains committed to shaping franchising’s future. The WFC continues to break barriers, elevate leaders, and inspire the next generation of women in business.
