IFA Congratulates Lori Chavez-DeRemer For Bipartisan Senate HELP Committee Vote
When the future of Main Street franchises was on the line, Chavez-DeRemer stood with America’s 830,000 franchised small businesses, and IFA is proud to stand with her now
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Michael Layman, Chief Advocacy Officer for the International Franchise Association (IFA), released the following statement congratulating Lori Chavez-DeRemer, nominated to lead the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), for receiving bipartisan support in a 14-9 vote before the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP):
“We congratulate Lori-Chavez DeRemer for her overwhelming show of support today from members of both political parties in the Senate HELP Committee and look forward to her full confirmation vote. When the future of Main Street franchises was on the line, Lori Chavez-DeRemer stood with America’s 830,000 franchised small businesses and their 9 million employees. We are confident she is the right person to implement the Trump pro-growth agenda that will enable the franchise business model to reach even new heights and create more economy opportunity for all, and we intend to work shoulder-to-shoulder with her in that goal.”
In January 2024, as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Chavez-DeRemer voted for the repeal of the flawed Biden era expanded joint employer that threatened the future of franchising. Last month, IFA became one of the first groups to endorse Chavez-DeRemer.
IFA also applauded the nomination of Keith Sonderling to serve as Deputy Secretary of Labor, following his confirmation hearing today. Layman said, “Keith has shown his commitment to supporting small businesses throughout his career and will be a champion for policies to enhance the franchise business model across the country.” In the hearing, Sonderling reaffirmed his commitment to a narrow joint employer rule and supporting franchise business owners and their employees.
