Special Programs And Scholarships

FRANCHISING ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM — Begun with a generous grant from the PepsiCo Foundation, this program explores ways that franchising can attract, train, and retain the people it needs to ensure access to a capable pool of workers and competent and dedicated managers. A major component of the program focuses on the need to attract and train minority and urban youth to careers in franchising. Click Here to learn more.


VETERANS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM —
The IFA Educational Foundation, with the generous support of Michael Seid & Associates LLC, Figaro's Italian Pizza, Luce, Smith and Scott, Valpak Direct Marketing Systems,  and The Dwyer Group has created a Veterans Scholarship Fund. The fund provides $2,500 annual scholarships to a qualified veteran of the U.S. military, to encourage his or her pursuit of continuing education focused on entrepreneurial studies. The CFE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM — The International Franchise Association Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) Scholarship Programs. This program supports the granting of The Irl Marshall CFE scholarship award of $2,500. The total amount of this scholarship will be applied toward the tuition for programs offered for ICFE credit and must be used within a three-year period. Amounts not used within three years of the time of the award will be forfeited, returning into the general scholarship fund. Click Here to learn more.


ARTHUR S. KARP RESEARCH AWARD — Each year the Foundation supports academic research through cooperation with the International Society of Franchising. The Arthur Karp family has donated funds to permanently endow the annual award for the best research paper in franchising. In appreciation, the award has been named the Arthur S. Karp Award of the IFA Educational Foundation.


DECA STUDENT FRANCHISING COMPETITION — Since 1995, the Foundation has sponsored an annual Student Franchising Competition with more than 5,000 DECA high school chapters throughout the U.S.   The annual competition is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Company and 7-Eleven.

The sponsorship includes cash awards and trophies for the students who complete the best Franchising Business Paper or Franchising Project in DECA's annual competition. DECA's mission is to educate young people in marketing, entrepreneurship, and business management. For more information about DECA, visit their website — www.deca.org


DON DEBOLT FRANCHISING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM — The Don DeBolt Franchising Scholarship Program, named in honor of IFA’s recently-retired president who served from 1995 to 2004, is being conducted in cooperation with DECA and Delta Epsilon Chi. A $5,000 scholarship and travel stipend will be awarded each year to the overall winner of the Delta Epsilon Chi Entrepreneurship Academy Competitive, which will take place at the DEX Annual International Career Development Conference. Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who have an expressed interest in pursuing a degree in entrepreneurship and franchising.

Overall winners will be recognized at the DECA and Delta Epsilon Chi International Career Development Conference each year. The Delta Epsilon Chi Scholarship winner will also be recognized at IFA's Annual Convention.


HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND — The Hispanic College Fund offers need and merit-based scholarships to talented Hispanic students who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree in business, engineering, or technology. Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 and are awarded annually. Students can apply online at www.hispanicfund.org. The application deadline is April 15th.


FRANCHISE LAW DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP AWARD — The International Franchise Association Educational Foundation and DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP have established a Franchise Law Diversity Scholarship Award. The scholarship program will recognize academic achievement among minority law students and will encourage students to study franchise and distribution law. For application form click here.


MINORITY ENTREPRENEURS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM — Marriott International and the IFA Educational Foundation have teamed up to sponsor the Minority Entrepreneurs Scholarship Program. The purpose of the program is to help and recognize minority students by providing scholarship funds to college students who are enrolled in business, franchising and/or entrepreneurial studies. Five $3,000 scholarship awards will be presented annually. Click here to learn more.


THE MINORITY FRANCHISE PROGRAM
Sponsored by the Exxon Mobil Foundation – this program was created to increase the number of minority franchisees by offering prospective franchisees around the country a physical place where they can go to learn more about franchising opportunities, write a compelling business plan, and find funding. The program is a collaboration between the IFA Educational Foundation and the Association of Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC) to take advantage of the nationwide business assistance network of ASBDC and the franchising knowledge, resources and contacts of the IFA.
