WASHINGTON, D.C. Feb. 16, 2011―Stan Friedman, CFE, senior vice president at FranConnect, was named today by the International Franchise Association to receive the Ronald E. Harrison Award during the association’s 51st Annual Convention, held in Las Vegas.
The Ronald E. Harrison Award recognizes organizations or individuals who have made significant contributions to minorities in franchising. Ronald E. Harrison, CFE, retired PepsiCo senior vice president, IFA past chairman and former chairman of the IFA Diversity Institute board of directors, was the first recipient of this award, which was named in his honor.
“Stan Freidman has a long history of fostering diversity in the franchise community,” said IFA Chairman Ken Walker, CFE. “The Ronald E. Harrison Award recognizes those contributions and we congratulate him on this important honor.”
Stan Friedman is a founding board member of IFA's Diversity Institute and has been first vice-chairman, since its inception. Previously, he was a member of IFA’s Minorities in Franchising Committee from 1997-2009, serving as its chairman in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The committee was disbanded in 2009. In his hometown of Atlanta, Friedman chairs the advisory board of the Professional Athlete Franchising Initiative, a collaborative, working in conjunction with IFA, to bring soon-to-retire professional athletes to a whole new playing field, that of business ownership, through franchising. He is also a board member of the Southeast Franchise Forum and a past board member of the Georgia Restaurant Association.
Before joining FranConnect, Friedman served in leadership and development positions for several well-known franchise brands, such as Wing Zone, WSI Internet, ERA Franchise Systems and Prudential Real Estate Affiliates.
In 1998, while directing global development at Blimpie International, Friedman created an Urban Expansion initiative that was heralded by the media, and leaders of both the public and private sectors. His “Blimpie Urban Initiative for Leadership Development” culminated in an invitation to the White House, to participate in President Clinton’s, “White House Conference for Community Empowerment.” Later that year, Friedman’s urban expansion initiative was honored as Blimpie International’s Innovation of the Year.
